COTTAGE GROVE SOCCER CLUB BOARD/COACHES MEETING MINUTES

JUNE 10, 2004

7:00PM

Meeting was called to order at 7:10PM by Carl.

Present: Carl Pulvermacher, Joanna Schmidt, Korey Frey, and Randy Aguilera

Approval of CGS Logo
Carl presented the new Cottage Grove Soccer Club logo. Three logos were presented and approval was made. Logo will be taken to a silk screener for color design and estimated costs for new logo. It was also suggested that Tracy Hauge be contacted to get started on the vinyl clings. Joanna will contact Tracy on this.

Upcoming G and E Coaching License Courses
All coaches U8 and up are required to have a minimum of a G-license. Carl encourages all K-1 coaches to get a G-license also. The G-License Coaching Course is scheduled for September 7, 2004, in Cottage Grove, location to be determined. These coaching courses will be listed on the Cottage Grove web site.

Carl would like to see as many coaches as possible attend the E-License Coaching course. E-License Coaching Course is scheduled for August 13-15, 2004 at Town Hall.
All coaching course times can also be found on the MAYSA website or in the front of your coach’s manual.

K-1 Coordinator
Carl met with Lenny Komorowski, the K-1 Coordinator, and Lenny would like the club to find a replacement. He has put in many years of service with the club and would like to pursue other interests.

Plans are to have a mini training session in August for all new K-1 coaches. (Format will change for K-1 (i.e. from 8:30-9:00AM practice for Kindergarten teams with games following from 9:00AM-10:00AM. First grade teams will practice from 10:00-10:30AM with games at 10:30-11:30. Teams will consist of all kindergarteners together as a team and all first graders together as a team.

The K-1 format will be 3v3 format, 2-teams, 12 man roster. All teams will have a head coach and an assistant. This will easy the transition to U08 when play turns to 4 v 4.

This new K-1 format will start in the fall 2004.

It is also suggested that K-1 referees be hired for each game. K-referees would set up the fields for the games and the first grade referees would take the games down. This would allow the K-1 coaches to concentrate on their coaching responsibilities.

Treasurer position
Susan Welsch has volunteered to take over as the new Club Treasurer position. She assumed this position on Wednesday, June 2, 2004.

Susan’s financial/budget recommendations were discussed.

Susan suggested that a budget be set for the 2004-05 season.

It was requested that the president of the club also be able to sign checks out of the Club account.

Susan also suggested an annual operating budget.

Web page coordinators
It was suggested that the web page be updated by in-house volunteers. Lisa Pulvermacher and Joanna Schmidt, will take over these duties. Training will be provided by Sarah Reese the Web Master that the club hired to put up the web page. The Dreamweaver program has been purchased for this purpose. Cost for the program was $95.00.

Web page update
It was suggested that we contact the Monona Grove School district, and the Cottage Grove Town and Village to request that the Cottage Grove Soccer Club website be linked off of their web sites.

Postings for all vacant club positions will be placed on the web site.

Recognition for Club Members
It was suggested that Lenny Komorowski and Joanne Vetter be recognized by the club for their many years of service to the club. A small thank-you ad will be placed in the Cottage Grove paper.

If and when new soccer fields are realized at Fireman’s Park a plaque with names of people who have dedicated time to the club can be displayed there.

Registration
Jim Johanns was not present at the meeting, so registration numbers for 2004-05 is not known at the time of this meeting.

Carl presented information on a company (Active.com) wanting to provide on-line registration to the club for a small fee.

Purchase of goals for U8
It was approved that new U8 goals be purchased for all home fields.

Other business
Carl contacted all the principals at Taylor Prairie, Cottage Grove and Winnequah about having a poster at/or near the registration table during registration time. All principals approved the request. Lisa and Joanna will work on getting materials ready and getting a poster ready for registration.

The UW Men’s Soccer contacted Carl about hosting a Soccer Clinic next June, 2005 for the cost of $125.00/participant. It was agreed that this would be a good Clinic to support.

Carl will talk with Jim Hanson about sponsors for fall session.

In the future we will let MAYSA know not to schedule any games at Arrowwood in June. There is a conflict with baseball. No games will be scheduled at Taylor Prairie (Northlawn) for the 2004-2005 soccer season. This field needs to “rehab”.

It was also noted that all volunteer coaches are entitled to get one free registration and any coaching license fees will be paid for by the club.Meeting adjourned at 8:15PM.
